Health benefits of Green Tea

We repeatedly hear about the medical and health benefits  of green tea conversely little is ever divulged on the negative aspects of this beverage. We have heard persistently how it is good for our health and that it could even contribute towards helping us in losing those excess pounds that we seem to have accumulated over the winter.

Just as with everything else in life it has its good points as well as its bad. Tried and true green tea aficionados will unquestionably argue this point with me but the facts remain that the foremost downfall of green tea is that it contains caffeine. That’s right you will find that event though the quantity of caffeine in green tea is exceptionally low it still has caffeine in it.

Dietary consultants have so graciously informed us that too much caffeine is not good at all for our bodies and as such could potentially have a detrimental effect upon our health. Fortunately the green tea only contains one third the amount of caffeine that you would typically find in one cup of coffee. Green tea contains two interesting compounds which relate to this caffeine. They are theophylline, and theobromine.

Thophylline itself is a caffeine type of substance that is stronger then straight caffeine. Green tea merely contains small trace amounts of this substance but for the sake of being straight forward I felt it needed to be mentioned. There are many benefits associated with this compound as well. They are the ability to relaxing our bronchial muscles, increases the functions of our heart muscles as well as raise the heart beat, increase ones blood pressure and renal blood flow and it provides a great anti-inflammatory measure.

Theobromine is widely used as a natural way to promote better blood circulation and acts as a vasodilator, a diuretic and even as a heart stimulant in some cases. It is now being used in research as a potential remedy for cancer due to its antioxidant properties.

The Negative Effects of Caffeine

Caffeine when taken in excess can have detrimental effects to the human body and mind.  It can disrupt sleep patterns and causes you experience insomnia at night if you consume this just right before bedtime.  Excessive caffeine has also been shown to cause problems to those with kidney or psychological disorders-this element can disrupt the balance of chemicals in the brain and cause you to experience confusion or anxiety in extreme cases.  Caffeine may also interfere with the effects of certain medication such as MAOI or medication for kidney and liver problem that can cause the body to respond in undesirable.

Now in the event that you can not or do not desire to indulge in any caffeine regardless of how small the amount is and what it can do towards providing a positive affect upon your body, you may wish to consider the use of green tea extract. This extract will provide you with the very same benefits associated with green tea but without the caffeine effect.
